Creative Industries

A world-leading mix of creativity and tech

Creative industries are flourishing in Stockholm. Innovative, open-minded people are moving here, dreams are imagined and cultivated here, and from here those dreams can stretch far beyond the borders of Sweden.

Stockholm is a creative melting-pot full of unexpected cross-collaborations. It’s not uncommon for computer games or fashion concepts to evolve after a game developer, filmmaker, designer, musician and artist get together and exchange ideas. Distances are short in Stockholm, geographically as well as in terms of the informal and friendly business climate. This gives rise to a creative incubator where talented people from different sectors meet and then decide to work together, often resulting in new and exciting businesses ventures.

  • Film

The Swedish film industry is captivating the world, and more than 90% of its revenue comes from Stockholm. It is the home of Ingemar Bergman, Tomas Alfredsson and Roy Andersson, and Stockholm continues to foster talent, in front of as well as behind the camera.

  • Music

Stockholm is one of the worlds leading music exporters. But it’s not only about present-day acts like Avicii and Icona Pop. Producers like Max Martin, with an astounding 17 Billboard number-ones, have topped international charts for decades. It’s no surprise that Spotify, Teenage Engineering and Auddly are all from Stockholm.

  • Food

Stockholm is the epicentre of New Nordic Cuisine with some of the most creative chefs and restaurants in the world. The focus is on local, seasonal produce with chefs reinventing Scandinavian food and bringing out pure and natural flavours in innovative ways.

  • Fashion & Design

A main theme in Swedish creativity is the desire to combine cleverness with accessibility. This is especially apparent in the fashion and design industry where phenomena such as H&M, Acne and IKEA have had a huge global impact. Now a long list of startups are benefitting from the success of these giants.

  • Gaming

Stockholm is one of the most important cities in Europe when it comes to game development. From 2010 to 2013, Stockholm’s gaming industry grew by more than 300%, and the growth is expected to continue for many years to come thanks to international success stories like Candy Crush Saga, Minecraft and the Battlefield Series.
