Meet Mihaela Novac
Mihaela made her move to Stockholm from Romania, and decided on settling down in Lidingö with her husband and son. She works at a tech startup where more than half of the employees are non Swedes. We asked her about her thoughts on the startup scene, the Swedes and life close to the woods at Lidingö.
Q: How would you describe Swedish people?
If you could say one thing about Swedes - they are tech and internet addicted. This is a country of early adopters, no doubt about it.
Q: What is the advantage of working in Stockholm?
For me, this is a great opportunity because I get to play at a global level and on a similar level as Silicon Valley. That was the main factor that got us here. Here you have more funding, more openness to startups, more entrepreneurial thinking.
Q: What is the best part about living here?
Nature is something really special that Stockholm has. Your kids are playing in the woods, and the woods are two meters from your home. That’s amazing.
Q: What is the best thing about living in Lidingö?
We are living in Lidingö and I don’t feel like I’m living outside Stockholm, I’m inside Stockholm and I’m in the middle of everything, and at the same time I have the calm and nature.
I always wanted to have a beach house but in Lidingö we are really lucky - we have a house facing the sea.
Q: What is the best benefit you receive here?
The entire system is centered around kids, the benefits and the maternity/paternity leave.
From the company perspective, and the government perspective, there are a lot of things that help you to be a better parent.
I believe Sweden is the best place to be a parent, from all points of view. The culture, the mentality and the government create an environment that is quite supportive.
